How The Moon Came To Be

How the moon came to be
A Native American legend

Long ,long ago, at a time when there was no moon ,there was a Native American tribe called the Rahamand tribe.
And in that tribe there was a young boy who was but 7 summers. And his name was, Rahiki.
And his favorite thing to do was play with his small golden ball, wich he called “Roo”.
One day while Rahiki was playing with his “Roo”. He spotted a beautiful golden dog strolling on through the woods.
Rahiki admired the dog and began wishing it would follow him home, but the dog was
interested in something besides him, infact he was looking straight at his “Roo”! So Rahiki offered his “Roo” out to the dog(something he would have never done.) And sure enough the dog came and sat down beside him.
Rahiki stroked the dogs soft golden fur and they soon became great friends.
The dog followed Rahiki home and the tribe was amazed at what they saw. “For he is as brown as the autum leaves” one said."He is your guide dog” said another.
Rahiki knew that they shall never be separated.
Now that the dog had been his friend for so long Rahiki decided the dog should have a name. But what? Days passed and Rahiki still couldn't think of the proper name, but then it hit him. “I shall name him Roo, after his way of meeting me!”.
And it was decided “Roo” was his new name.
Summers passed, and Rahiki was now 15 summers old. And the time had come for him to be married.
“Dear Roo, you must find a new home, I must stay with a wife, I am now to old to play with you.”
Now Rahiki was very sad he had to say this so, he must make it up to Roo somehow, to give him his “Roo”.
So Rahiki and Roo traveled to the highest mountain in the Rahamand’s forest and said to Roo: “Dearest Roo, the time has come for us to say goodbye. I wish that there was some way I could still be with you.” And with that, Rahiki threw his “Roo” so high in the air it disappeared. And Roo went with it.
Now every night Rahiki looks up for his old friend and his “Roo”. And he always sees it, right there in the sky.
“I shall call it moon,” he said. Wich means “old friend, and always new.”

Based on my real dog Roo, this story is not a true Native American legend but it can sound like it.
